Chris Lawer and Frank Weber, in conversation with Dan Pesut, will explain how they apply core ecological concepts such as ecosystem structure and hierarchy, resource sharing, providing service, biodiversity and adaptive capacity to the health ecosystem. The ecological concepts inform their method and framework for designing value and co-creating transformative interventions at scale in complex health systems.
They aim to explore how to achieve a better synthesis between ecosystems and design thinking. They seek better insight into complex health and social system problem situations; design new frames of novel possibility; anticipate futures and develop ecosystem strategies; design and create interventions that scale and overcome constraints to adoption; and develop new organizational mindsets.
Chris Lawer is CEO of Umio, a consultancy he founded in 2010, to help clients apply advanced ecosystem principles, frameworks and methods in exploring new health, healthcare and social opportunities and design the strategies, technologies and interventions to address them.
For twenty years, Chris has advanced problem and market learning, design, innovation, strategy and transformation capabilities for private and public sector organizations around the world, supporting them to understand complexity, foresight and define new possibilities. He is a pioneering designer of methods and processes for advancing the front-end of innovation, shaping robust growth strategy and building adaptive, customer- and ecosystem-aligned organizations. Through his work in health innovation, Chris has acquired expertise in areas that include patient experience, chronic wound care, infection prevention, diagnostics and management, surgical practices, obesity and diabetes. Chris is an experienced speaker, project leader, lecturer, and workshop and group facilitator. He is widely published with journal articles and publications covering systemic design, service ecosystems, customer and market learning, customer advocacy, practice theory, and absorptive capacity of knowledge in innovation teams.
